Ruby Star Purl Modern fabric Log Cabin Patchwork Quilt

A traditional patchwork design with a modern twist thanks to the ‘Purl’ collection of fabrics designed by Sarah Watts of the Ruby Star Designs collective. With shades of deep teal, blues and pinks, subtle greys and creams all brought to life with pops of orange. All the fabrics are high quality cottons with a faint sheen, beautifully soft to the touch. I’ve used the orange fabrics in the collection to form the centre squares of the Log Cabin blocks – they traditionally represent the hearth at the centre of the home with the ‘logs’ of opposing light and dark fabrics representing the ups and downs of family life. I made a narrow flanged border in orange. A close look at the fabrics shows images of balls of yarn, knitting needles and crochet hooks, scissors, flowers, lambs, teapots and cups. A quilt to please someone who loves home life, nature and all things yarn related. The quilt measures 53.5″ wide by 67″ long (136cm x 170cm). Ideal for use as a sofa or bed throw. With a layer of warm, softly draping cotton/bamboo wadding between the patchwork front and pieced backing this quilt would be a delight to snuggle under whether you are knitting, reading a favourite book or following a boxed set on the TV. Using a turquoise thread I’ve quilted a continuous spiral design in the central part of the quilt and wavy lines using dark grey thread in the borders. Machine washable on a gentle cycle. Designed and made in my smoke-free, pet-free sewing studio.
