Modern Patchwork Quilt

Description

I used the traditional Irish Chain patchwork pattern as the basis for the asymmetrical design of this quilt. The finished quilt was featured in issue 71 of ‘Quilt Now’ magazine. All the fabrics on the back and front of the quilt are 100% cotton. Hidden inside is a layer of naturally warm, breathable Bamboo & Cotton wadding. To seal the edges I made a double layer binding from a green gingham cotton. The quilt measures 66″ long by 54″ wide (168cm x 137cm) – a great size to use as a bed cover, bed throw or cosy sofa throw. I quilted the three layers (patchwork top, wadding and backing) together using a variegated thread in shades of blue that compliment the colours of the patches. The cotton print on the back of quilt features lots of quotes about the value of friendship. I have included a label giving details of when and where it was made. Machine washable on a gentle cycle.
